Problems of using Starlink in Ukraine under the conditions of marital state

Abstract

The article examines the problems and prospects of the STARLINK satellite communication project, as well as the application of STARLINK in Ukraine.

Satellite Internet - a method of providing access to the Internet using satellite communication technologies.

Global coverage of the Earth with inexpensive high-speed Internet access will create new opportunities in the fields of education, transport, tourism, and construction.Elon Musk's company SpaceX has become one of the most influential in the field of space technologies and discoveries.The most successful project of Mask's company - Starlink - received wide recognition and opened up new opportunities for providing access to high-speed Internet, in particular, in the conditions of hostilities in Ukraine.It is widely used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, de-occupied communities, journalists, and not only.[1]

SpaceX opened pre-orders for Starlink satellite internet in February 2021 for the first countries - the USA, Canada and Great Britain.For Ukraine, access to it was planned for 2022. However, the Russian attack significantly accelerated this process.

It is noted that with the expected growth of the Starlink network, which will consist of 42,000 satellites, it will become crowded in orbit very quickly. This will pose a threat to other satellites and also interfere with astronomical observations from the Earth.

Already, Starlink satellites are responsible for most of the incidents with the threat of collision with other satellites.

Also a problem is the relatively short life of the Starlink satellites, which last only about five years.

Attention was drawn to the fact that Starlink has difficulties with maintenance and service, the inability to change the owner's account data, which is regularly reported not only by Ukrainians, but also by users from other countries.Soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces tell "The Week" about other difficulties in the operation of the terminals, including limited mobility (possibility of using them not at the first connection point).This often led to the fact that many Starlink terminals, in particular those received by the Ukrainian Defense Forces, turned into scrap: they cannot be used for their intended purpose in the right place.Apart from the problems of the STARLINK project, the implementation of the Starlink network in Ukraine is expected to be a big step forward in bridging the digital divide and bringing the country closer to achieving full Internet access.This project promises to be a boon for the people of Ukraine and will serve as an example of how technology improves life.
