Preventing and combating corruption in Ukraine: legislative changes and challenges

Abstract

In this article discusses the current legislative provision for preventing and combating corruption in Ukraine. Author of the article reveales some differences in corrupt practices in Ukraine and the countries of Western Europe, the shortcomings in the institutional reform of the sphere of prevention and combating corruption in Ukraine, including the judiciary. Author states that the essence of the success of combating corruption in Ukraine is to reform the judicial system, including increasing the detection of corruption cases among judges. Also the author paid attention to the declaration of assets by public servants and the lack of real results after the verification of the data provided by officials in their declarations of assets. On the basis of these data in the article the author comes to the conclusion that Ukrainian legislation in this area is consistent with international experience, however, indicates the absence of secondary legislation necessary for the effective implementation of anti-corruption policy in Ukraine.
