The article examines some issues of contractual regulation of transport services in multimodal transport. In the light of the adoption of a new law for our country "On multimodal transportation", this issue has acquired new significance and importance. The article notes that the term "multimodal transportation" means the transportation of goods by several modes of transport using a single contract of carriage. Unfortunately, the technical development of multimodal freight transport is not supported by a proper legal framework. The adoption of the law will regulate multimodal transportation and determine the legal field for the development of modern methods of cargo delivery. And this, in turn, will improve the quality of service to consumers of transport services, reduce environmental pressures on the environment, as well as accelerate the movement of goods between Ukraine and the EU. The article says that the transport sector is the basis for accelerating the development of the national economy by creating a safe, reliable, efficient multimodal transport system based on market principles and meeting the needs of Ukrainian industry.
With the globalization of production and liberalization of services, Ukraine, more than ever, needs to expand its capacity to offer reliable and cost-effective transport and logistics services, taking advantage of technological development through a corresponding "leap" in modern technology and commercial practices;
There is a need around the world to harmonize the legal environment for multimodal transport, in particular with regard to the development of new types of international transport, such as combined road/rail transport and short sea shipping in Europe.
It is necessary to reliably and flexibly respond to changing customer requirements through uninterrupted and integrated coordination of cargo and equipment flows in different modes and have the necessary legal regulations. The adoption of the Law of Ukraine "On Multimodal Transportation" is not a solution to this problem, but it is an important step in this direction. Further improving national legislation should regulate current and future multimodal operational options and alternatives, as well as certain aspects of the use of information and communication technologies in multimodal transport.
Key words: transport services, direct mixed service, cargo transportation, multimodal transportation operator, transportation document, multimodal transportation, multimodal transportation agreement.
