Abstract

The article examines the specifics of the
protection of consumer rights on the Internet by the
current legislation of Ukraine and the EU at the
current stage. Attention is paid to the concept of the
consumer; its various definitions are highlighted in
the current Law of Ukraine and its updated edition,
the entry into force of which has been postponed until
the day of termination or cancellation of martial law
in Ukraine. It is substantiated that despite using the
mechanism of alternative protection of consumer
rights on the Internet in Ukrainian legislation, it
remains far from the requirements of EU legislation
and established practice. It is concluded that a clear
normative definition of consumer parameters in
Ukraine, as defined in the EU legislation on
alternative resolution of consumer disputes, the development and implementation into practical life of
an online platform for the alternative protection of consumer rights on the Internet, could ensure the approval of the fundamental principles regarding the effectiveness of the mechanism for the protection of consumer affairs on the Internet, contribute to the approximation of Ukraine to European standards in the field of consumer rights protection, which is essential in the context of the European integration of Ukraine.

Keywords: consumers, protection of consumer rights on the Internet, alternative ways of protecting rights, an online dispute resolution platform, electronic commerce.
