The article reveals the essence of professional training of future musical art teachers for work in the modern school. It is emphasized that in the 21st century an important task of higher education institution (HEI) is the professional training of future musical art teachers who will be able to influence the development of musical culture of the younger generation, preservation and enrichment of national and cultural traditions of the Ukrainians.
It is noted that the innovative processes taking place in the field of Ukrainian education reveal significant contradictions between the needs of the modern world and the real state of preparation of future musical art teachers for work in secondary schools. Professional competence is necessary for the musical and pedagogical activity of the future musical art teacher, who will be socially and psychologically adapted to and capable of constant professional growth.
It is proved that a lot of works of well-known scientists are devoted to the problems of the competence approach in professional training and the issues of the content and structure of competencies. It is substantiated that the concept of an integral system of a music teacher training includes the unity of general pedagogical (knowledge of pedagogy, psychology, cultural studies) and special training (musical and theoretical knowledge, possession of a musical instrument, singing voice, ensemble skills, conducting technique, methods of music teaching and education).
It is proved that the professional activity of a musical art teacher is multifaceted and includes performing, pedagogical and managerial aspects, it is impossible without vocal, instrumental and conductor-choral training. The author believes that the professional competence of a future musical art teacher should be defined as an integrative quality which is manifested in: the ability to use their knowledge in the development of musical perception, the development of musical abilities of students; carrying out artistic and pedagogical analysis of works, possession of methods of development of children's voice and knowledge of features of organizational work in children's musical collectives; an understanding of the essence of extracurricular musical and aesthetic work.
