Abstract

The article examines the history of the development of the song culture of Ukraine as a source of spirituality of the Ukrainian people. It is emphasized that the song culture of Ukraine has its own long traditions. It was an integral part of life itself and accompanied all events in the life of the Ukrainian people and influenced the formation of moral and aesthetic ideas of Ukrainians.
It is justified that the Ukrainian folk song is one of the best and richest manifestations of the spiritual characteristics of our people. In its artistic images, the history of the people is revealed clearly and majestically. It is stated that аn important role in folk song is played by folk-poetic song material, which has a unique figurative element and comprehensively influences the development of aesthetic feelings.
It is proved that the song culture of Ukraine has its ancient traditions, which was started in Kievan Rus, and a special place in the development of singing culture in Ukraine belongs to Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The first «Singing School» was opened in the town of Hlukhiv in 1738. It provided music education for a large number of singers and composers, who later became famous, and their work influenced the development of the musical culture of the Ukrainian people.

It is substantiated that the 18th century is not accidentally called the «golden age of Ukrainian music», because it was at this time that the musical work of such famous composers as D. Bortniansky, M. Berezovsky, and A. Wedel flourished.
It is emphasized that in the second half of the 19th century many Ukrainian composers showed interest in the creative processing of Ukrainian folk songs in the Ukrainian cultural environment.
It is proved that in the twentieth century, which is often called the «song era» in art circles, Ukrainian artists created many songs with vivid artistic images that became popular not only in our country but also far beyond its borders.
The author believes that the art of song, which occupies a special place in Ukrainian musical culture, throughout the history of the Ukrainian people reflected national ideas, culture of thinking and contributed to strengthening cultural and national unity of the Ukrainian people.
