Abstract

Innovations in teaching historical material are a reflection of objective requirements aimed at ensuring the right to quality education for all citizens without exception, including students with special educational needs. The purpose of the article is to justify the need to use modern innovations in teaching historical material to students with special educational needs. As a result of the research, modern innovations in teaching historical material to students with special educational needs were revealed, such as trench experience VR, classcraft — history, educational laboratory, reading as a historian, photo puzzle, viewing history, interactive excursion, find a witness, use of mass media. Reasoned innovations are correlated with possible and useful methods of their implementation in the educational process, in particular, the excursion method, the three musketeers’ method, the reconstruction method, the gamification method. It was found out that the focus of innovative teaching of historical material to students with special educational needs is the belief that each student has the ability to learn and succeed in life. In addition, innovative teaching of historical material helps students with special educational needs to develop critical judgment about historical issues and to understand existing events in their proper historical context. The work emphasizes that innovations in teaching historical material to students with special educational needs are characterized by the principle of diagnostic goal-orientation in relation to transformation, that is why the purpose of using innovative technology in teaching historical material should be set so precisely and definitively that it is possible to draw an unambiguous conclusion about the level of its implementation and create a sufficiently defined didactic process that would guarantee its implementation at a certain time. It was concluded that the use of various methods and innovative technology when teaching historical material will help not only to measure the knowledge of students with special educational needs, but also to encourage them to reflect and think critically, and therefore can be the reason for the development of a wide range of cognitive and interpersonal skills. Teaching historical material to students with special educational needs through the use of innovative technology is designed to modify the content of the educational material.
