Nowadays, when training specialists in economic specialties, not only the formation of professional hard skills, but also ensuring the training of a specialist with developed soft skills is becoming more and more relevant. A large part of soft skills can be provided by forming emotional, social and leadership qualities in specialists, which together provide social competence.
The article conducts a theoretical study of the views of foreign and domestic scientists in the field of philosophy, psychology, sociology, and social science on the formation of the concept of «social competence», and defines its components.
The practical definition of social competence is mostly empirical. We have proposed a tool for the study of social competence in groups of medium size in accordance with the theoretical definition of this concept. The article presents the rationale and description of the practical study of social competence. Our research was conducted on students of the economic specialty of the institution of advanced professional education. The sample of subjects consists of boys and girls, students from 1 to 3 years.
Quantitative and qualitative - statistical, descriptive and correlation analyzes were conducted. For ease of perception, the results are presented in a visual form. With the help of quantitative analysis, all respondents were divided according to the level of social competence formation. Qualitative processing methods helped to determine the factors affecting the formation and improvement of social competence. The article identifies gender differences in social competence in a group of students.
On the basis of the conducted research, logically substantiated directions for conducting corrective work in the form of group trainings are proposed.
