Refining the essence of the concept of «enterprise potentia»

Abstract

Considering the problems of resource shortages that were exacerbated during the war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, the numerous alternatives of activity opportunities in different markets, the variability of using different resources, their compensation, more effective application, as well as the interdependence and interchangeability of structural components of the enterprise's activity and development, an in-depth study of the essential characteristics and features of the enterprise's potential as the fundamental basis of its existence is relevant.

The nature and specific features of various types of enterprise potential have been studied by numerous domestic and foreign scholars. They emphasize that there is currently a need to continue in-depth research into the essential characteristics and features of enterprise potential as a fundamental basis for its existence. The absence of a unified interpretation of the concept of “enterprise potential”, as well as the rapid changes in the business environment that significantly affect enterprise activities and their structure, substantiate the relevance of this study devoted to enterprise potential.

The aim of the article is to generalize the characteristic features and to deepen the essence of the concept of “enterprise potential”. To achieve this aim, a set of research objectives has been formulated: to analyze definitions of the concept of “enterprise potential” proposed by scholars; to identify the main components of enterprise potential; and to refine the definition of the concept of “enterprise potential”. The research methods include content analysis, logical analysis, structural analysis, and generalization.

The article examines the essence and characteristic features of the concept of “enterprise potential”.

This concept is complex and multifaceted, so different scientists interpret it differently: as a set of resources, capabilities, abilities, or reserves of an enterprise.

The concept of “enterprise potential” has been further developed and is proposed to be understood as a systemic set of resources, means, tools, experience, skills, competencies, capacities, and capabilities for the reproduction, expansion, and continuous functioning of an enterprise. Such an interpretation of the essence of enterprise potential makes it possible to include in further consideration and analysis such features as experience, skills, and abilities, as well as tools, which have not been emphasized in the definitions of domestic scholars but play a significant role in ensuring and developing enterprise activities.

Clarification of the essence of the enterprise's potential is necessary for a deeper understanding of the enterprise's capabilities, determination of the structure of the enterprise's potential, the level of its competitiveness, an objective assessment of the prospects for strategic development, and effective management of its development. It allows for the formation of a unified scientific approach, avoiding ambiguities in the theory and practice of enterprise management, and also ensures the correct use of terminology.

The obtained results may serve as a basis for further scientific research aimed at determining criteria for evaluating enterprise potential.
