Abstract

The article is devoted to the main aspects of the culture of peace as a relatively new phenomenon in global society. The need to form a conscious attitude to peace, understanding the values of peaceful living inspired the world community to find ways to solve this problem. Education is a favorable environment for the implementation of the ideas of a culture of peace and upbringing of the new generation in the focus of respect for universal values, human rights and freedoms, conflict resolution by not using the force of arms. The introduction of a culture of peace in education helps to develop the peace education, which is defined as the process of disseminating the knowledge, skills, attitudes and value, which are necessary to change behavior that will enable children, youth and adults to prevent conflict and violence. It helps to create conditions conducive to peace, at the interpersonal, intergroup, national or international levels. The foreign researchers have identified a list of key areas of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that are an integral part of peace education. The main postulates were the inclusion the materials in the curriculum of all levels that provide knowledge about the holistic concept of peace, conflict and violence, some peaceful alternatives. The key values for fostering a culture of peace are self-esteem, respect for others and for life, gender equality, compassion, concern for people and nature, openness to change and justice for others, a positive vision of the future, social responsibility. Developed under the influence of peace education, skills include the development of reflection, critical thinking, decision-making skills, creativity and imagination, communication skills and conflict resolution. In conclusion, the successful implementation of the proposed knowledge, skills and abilities, the education of relevant values will be a condition for the formation of a culture of peace for the younger generation.
