EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE OF WRITERS’ EPISTOLARY AT THE UKRAINIAN LITERATURE LESSONS AT HIGH SCHOOL

Abstract

The article provides an analysis of modern scientific materials and methods on the Ukrainian writers’ epistolary as an educational resource available to teachers of the Ukrainian literature. The paper notes that the professional competencies of teachers are developed based on the changes defined by the concept of the New Ukrainian School. The article shows the importance of using the epistolary of prominent Ukrainian writers at the lessons, in particular, letters that help to track the evolution of the writer’s personality and creativity, comprehensively and accurately present the author’s style, experiments of the man of letters in search of the genre, manifest the psychology of creativity, gender relations, worldview, value aspects, skill, and talent. The author notes that the epistolary brings high school students closer to understanding the writer’s personality, provides educational influence, and forms the life competence of young people to some extent. The work mentions new editions of letters by Ukrainian writers, draws parallels between traditional views on the methods of the Ukrainian literature lesson, and research and methods of modern scientists. The author provides specific examples of introducing letters into the content of the lesson in order to increase high school students’ interest in lives and creative heritage of writers who are already far away from the present days. It is about the educational potential of the letters of H. Kvitka-Osnovianenko and I. Karpenko-Karyi. The paper provides general recommendations for teachers. It emphasizes that when using literary memoirs at literature lessons, it is important to clearly define the purpose of using the epistolary, the moral values they present in relation to its author and public life in general, to be familiar with new publications of epistolary of writers whose biographies and works are studied at high school. It is important to update the professional scientific and methodological competence according to the tasks of the New Ukrainian School in order to effectively develop students’ personalities based on the examples of life and the creative achievement of outstanding Ukrainian writers.
